“Coastal Dune Lakes: Beaches of South Walton”, a 13-minute documentary highlighting Walton County’s rare coastal treasures received two CRYSTAL REEL AWARDS, the highest honor, for best cinematography and best documentary. Two SILVER TELLY AWARDS, the highest honor, for best in cinematography and content for education of nature. The film was co-produced by ELAM STOLTZFUS of Live Oak Production Group in Blountstown and The Walton County Tourist Development Council. The script was written by Chandra Hartman. The film gives an educational interpretation of the ecological benefits of the lakes and how they can be sustained for many years to come.
The film gives details of the biodiversity of the coastal dune lakes, water quality monitoring, development along the lakes and recreational opportunities. The film describes how both visitors and residents can participate in the “Leave No Trace” ethic by keeping the dune lakes pristine and natural.
Local environmental experts and community leaders participated in the film. The film will be promoted online on the TDC’s official website www.beachesofsouthwalton.com, through Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance, Coastal Dune Lake Advisory Board and University of Florida’s IFAS educational initiatives.
Since 1973, the Florida Motion Picture & Television Association (FMPTA) has grown from a handful of Florida filmmakers to an organization with members statewide. The primary objective of FMPTA is to encourage and facilitate increased film, video and sound recording production within Florida, as it is made up of persons involved in all areas of the production industry.
